Wellington Intermediate – Monday 25th August
On a really wet and miserable bank holiday Monday we travelled to Wellington for our first visit to this lovely venue. We were a little short of time when we arrived so had a slightly shorter warm up for dressage than usual. Freddie however, felt nice and relaxed going into the test but not as collected as needed. He scored a decent 33.6 which could be improved for future outings.
For the showjumping the rain had become very heavy and the course was a decent height with some really nice and colourful fences. Freddie jumped really well but dropped his hind legs onto the back rail of a downhill oxer which meant an annoying 4 faults.
The cross country got off to a bad start when we had a missed stride to the first part of a combination at jump 4 which slightly unseated the rider! The second element then was slightly missed and caused the rider to then become unseated slightly again, but they managed to recover and continue – after a quick check to make sure Freddie was ok. A few jumps later, the pair got back into a rhythm and confidence returned. The rest of the course went well and Freddie jumped super to finish clear but with a few time faults due to the early mistake.
