Somerley Park April 2015
After a few navigational issues finding the show ground, they arrived with just about enough time to warm up for dressage. However Freddie was feeling very tense and could have done with an extra half an hour to work in. Going into the test Liane felt she was unable to really ride him forward due to the tension through his back. The test was accurate but lacked flow and impulsion in places, as Liane was wary to push him any more.
The showjumping phase was slightly disappointing as despite going nicely, Freddie just jumped the very first and smallest jump on the course a little flat, and had the back rail down. He found the cross country little challenge, but this resulted in him being extremely strong the entire way around the flat course. Despite the ground being deep in places, this did little to stop him pulling and I was having to spend too long setting up for each jump, resulting in wasted seconds. He finished clear but with some time faults.
Not the perfect start, but not disastrous, and they finished 3rd
